Teachers’ Body Won’t Stop BNP Working In Schools

June 20, 2009

Thanks to Liberal Conspiracy and The Guardian.

The General Teaching Council for England is today accused by members of its governing body of failing to act to prevent British National party members from teaching in schools.

The GTCE has refused to write a clause into its new code for teachers barring BNP members from working in state schools. This was after receiving legal advice that to do so could “prejudice” teachers who are members of the far-right party.

In a letter to the Guardian today, five members of the governing body of the GTCE – which registers teachers to work in state schools in England and conducts disciplinary hearings – call for an urgent public debate. “We believe that being a member of the BNP is fundamentally inconsistent with the ethos of schools in this country,” they write.

They say the election of two BNP candidates to the European parliament, including the party’s leader, Nick Griffin, who has a conviction for inciting racial hatred, has made the issue even more urgent.

Members of the BNP, the National Front and Combat 18 are barred from working in the police force or prison service. The Church of England is considering a similar measure. Teaching leaders called for the government to rewrite teachers’ contracts, banning BNP members from schools, saying failure to do so was allowing “creeping legitimisation” of the party.

The GTCE is due to debate its new code next month. A draft version said “respect, equality, diversity and inclusion” were among eight “core values” that should be shared by all in the teaching profession.

It also included the ruling that teachers “maintain standards of behaviour, both inside and outside school”. But the GTCE refused to include a clause banning BNP membership. In a statement, the GTCE said it was advised it could not bar members of a “lawful” political party. Any council member who expressed a view against the BNP could be accused of discrimination, prejudicing the case.

“As a regulatory body, we cannot regulate against the beliefs of professionals, only their actions and conduct,” it said. Any council member who expressed anti-BNP views could not adjudicate in hearings involving BNP members and might compromise the council’s impartiality.

The letter to the Guardian reads: “The new code should clearly state that BNP members will not be eligible for registration as teachers by the GTC … If it is possible for other professions to resolve the legal difficulties, then it should be possible for the GTC.” The authors argue that legislation requires everyone working in schools to “promote good race relations and community cohesion”.

Kirit Modi, a former teacher, deputy of education at Islington council, north London, and now an education consultant, is one of the signatories. He said: “We have been told we can’t discuss this matter because it will cause legal difficulties. We haven’t been able to debate this within the GTC and that’s why we are calling for a wider debate.”

A list of BNP members leaked last year included 15 teachers, four nurses, a prison officer, 17 former police officers and 16 members of the armed forces.

Chris Keates, general secretary of the NASUWT teaching union, said BNP members should be banned across the public sector. “If BNP members are too racist or fascist to be in the police then they are too racist or fascist to work with children.

“It would be easy for someone in the BNP, holding the views they do, to discriminate against pupils. It would be easy for a BNP member to exclude pupils from black or minority ethnic groups by simply not giving them equal attention and that would be very hard to detect,” she said. “I can understand the GTC may be in a difficulty of prohibiting somebody through a code of conduct. But I don’t think the GTC is powerless. They could be campaigning to change teachers’ contracts.”

The union has lobbied successive secretary of states for education to tackle the issue in teachers’ contracts.

Do they want to teach children to be racist, disablist, homophobic nutters who agree with the Holocaust, then? Shocking isn’t it?

Nick Griffin Compares Himself To Barack Obama

June 19, 2009

Nick Griffin, leader of the British National Party, has been so impressed with Obama’s victory that he is claiming to be “Britain’s answer to that American black guy”, according to a BNP Spokesman.

This change is consistent with the BNP’s latest attempt to rebrand themselves as slightly less fascist and slightly less racist than before.

“Nick, who’s always been a political trailblazer, has been following Barack Obama very closely since he was elected President”, said the spokesman. “He’s been very impressed by the similarities in their political message. Both talk about change and hope – Obama about changing society for the better and bringing hope for the future, and Nick about changing nice people into racists and hoping that foreigners will go home.”

This message is being disseminated by none other than Mr Griffin himself. Speaking at a BNP rally held at the Wartington branch of Asda he proclaimed: “People want change! They want a change to immigration policies, they want a change of government, and they want immigrants to change their migrant ways!”

The BNP is expected to make strong political gains at the next European elections, as Europeans are added to the list of things the BNP hates.

“In the past,” said the BNP spokesman, “we’ve focused our attention primarily on immigrants, foreigners, Muslims, black people, Asians, gays, disabled people, women, gay disabled black Muslim women, and such like. But then we realised all of them had something in common. They could all be ‘European’. So bang! One more for the list.”

Obama’s office responded to those comments in candid style. “The president is always willing to reach across the political aisle. In this case however, the BNP can kiss his black ass.”

Please Vote, Just Not For The BNP

June 18, 2009

I’ve read a blog article that says once the Tories come into power (which they most likely will, come June 2010 when he HAS to hold a General Election whether he likes it or not) that in time we will see Gordon Brown in the same light as many view Winston Churchill. I didn’t know that people hated Winston Churchill ;) Either way, I don’t agree with that, because the Tories, when they were last in power, cut jobs in a recession and other things and the country is screwed because of it.

I think right now we have no faith in our government, given the results of the last election, which quite honestly scared me because BNP managed to get TWO seats in the European Parliament, which is just wrong (For those outside of the UK,  the BNP are basically Nazis with a different name and accent).

As someone who is bisexual, I can’t believe that people felt strongly enough to vote them into power, even though it’s a tiny amount. That’s how the Nazi party was started, and look what they did. We don’t need them having even the smallest bit of power in any way, shape or form. If you can vote and didn’t, then I’m looking at you.

Women were thrown in front of horses and chained themselves to railings and were force fed to avoid press coverage of hunger strikes, and got us our vote. We owe it to them to take their success and be heard! So, when the general election comes round, VOTE, just not for the BNP.

I don’t want to see concentration camps for immigrants and gays and anyone else who is not classed as “English,” because many of the people that would be in those camps are the people who surround you. Even though they might have been born in the UK, and so might their parents, all the BNP would need to do is find one immigrant somewhere in their family tree.

House Rules Please!

June 18, 2009

I understand that this is a very emotive subject, but there are some house rules.  If you feel you cannot comply to these then please don’t post in the comments.

The purpose of this blog is provide a reasoned response to the BNP’s policies and ideology, particularly in relation to people with disabilities.  Though you quite rightly might be angry enough to just leave loads of swearing in response to something, try to be constructive in your comments!

If you should email either myself or Cerebral Person, please be assured that your identity will not be revealed unless you give permission.  We understand that these are horrible people and we want to protect both you and ourselves.

These House Rules are no doubt going to grow as things progress, so please keep up to date with this category.

Thanks

Welcome To DisAbled People Against The BNP!

June 18, 2009

The British National Party are not just racist- they are every ‘ist’ under the sun. Unfortunately, they’ve recently been given the opportunity to share their unbelievably terrible views with the European Parliament.

The founders of this blog, Harry Thomas and Cerebral Person (who wishes to remain anonymous) were horrified, terrified and disgusted when they discovered that, in response to the death of Ivan Cameron, son of David Cameron, leader of the Conservative Party, senior BNP member Jeffery Marshall claimed in an internet forum discussion: “We live in a country today which is unhealthily dominated by an excess of sentimentality towards the weak and unproductive. No good will come of it.”

Later, in response to comments made by others on the site, Marshall is alleged to have written: “There is not a great deal of point in keeping these people alive after all.”

He said that the comments were taken out of context. The founders of this blog, however, choose not to believe him. We feel we have good reasons to be against the BNP.

This blog was born out of frustration. We hope to use it to prove to a certain politician that we are not at all unproductive!

We have big plans for this blog, so watch this space! Whether you are DisAbled, like both of us, or you simply agree that attitudes like Jeffery Marshall’s are unacceptable, we welcome your support and are both very grateful for it and for any suggestions you may have for the improvement of this blog. Your comments are welcome below, or if you prefer email, I can be reached on cerebralperson@hotmail.co.uk.

We thank you for visiting this brand new blog!
